The Sidi Ifni Suite
A four-poster king-sized bed, two-person jacuzzi bath, waterfall shower, 10 foot ceilings and a cosy Moroccan theme… this is the room for an opulent escape.
Sidi Ifni, a former Spanish enclave on Morocco’s Atlantic coast, has a special place in my heart. I stumbled across it thanks to chance encounters, lucky breaks, and a stubborn refusal to give up and go home.
After getting after itchy feet in Marrakech, we acted impulsively on the insistent recommendation by a stranger that we should visit the sleepy surf town of Mirleft. Our first attempt to reach it resulted in a mis-sold bus journey to Agadir, which led to us negotiating a four hour taxi drive through the desert, eventually arriving in Mirleft with rather considerable disappointment, before a final throw of the dice and some hair-raising driving found us blinking in the Atlantic sun of blue-skied Sidi Ifni. Gone were the tourist prices – and in fact the tourists – and in their place we found art deco buildings, friendly locals, and the sound of the ocean lapping the shore metres from our 1930s-era, sea-facing hotel room.
I can’t promise you the sound of the sea, but I hope my Sidi Ifni room will provide some of the escape and tranquillity that I found in its namesake.
Moorish touches abound: the bedroom walls are sky-blue while the bathroom walls are clay-coloured; mosaic lighting, wooden furniture, and photographs from Sidi Ifni and Marrakech round it off. There’s also plenty of storage space for you to stow your luggage and allow you to focus on your stay ahead.
What a bathroom: it’s almost as big as the bedroom! Let your stresses wash away in the double jacuzzi, perhaps with the aid of some candlelight. Wander in comfort over the heated floor tiles. And make use of the waterfall shower to help you get ready for whatever adventures you have planned.
The room includes a Smart HD television with preloaded apps including Netflix and YouTube. Enjoy complimentary luxury shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel. And naturally we provide fast wifi, a hairdryer, extra blankets, and tea and coffee making facilities.
A good day starts with a good breakfast.
So it’s a good thing that you’ll have exclusive use of my dining room in which to eat yours! I’ve decorated it in my customary bold colour scheme, whilst being sensitive towards the original Victorian features which I so love about this 19th century townhouse. I provide a self-service light breakfast as standard, which means that you can help yourself at whatever time suits you. Ease yourself into the day with bread or toast, cereals, tea, coffee (instant or freshly-ground filter), orange juice, fresh fruit, and milk, before getting on with the day ahead – York’s city centre is just 20 minutes walk away.
